Learn More About Mars Metal’s Elevator Test Weight & Counterweight Solutions for World Elevator Day

Mars Metal is proud to celebrate World Elevator Day on March 23rd, 2023, an international holiday that celebrates the history and technology surrounding elevators. The purpose of this day is to educate people about how important elevators are in our lives. Elevators are a valuable aspect of many buildings and are used daily by people around the globe to get around safely, quickly, and efficiently.

Mars Metal Elevator Test Cart Weights

At Mars Metal, we appreciate elevators and the time and effort that goes into testing and ensuring elevator safety. We design and manufacture elevator test cart weights to assist elevator service and repair companies with testing and certification.

Test cart weights are used to test and certify that an elevator is safe for use by passengers, as well as to ensure that it will perform well during an emergency. Our test carts consist of a rigidly constructed steel box with wheels that are specifically designed for the elevator industry. The cart itself weighs 100 LBS and comes with eight ergonomically shaped 50 LB weights to test the elevator for a total of 500 LBS. Each unit is designed with safety, serviceability, and durability in mind.

These test weight carts are painted safety red using an OSHA oxide paint and have a steel theft deterrent rod with a padlock. These units come complete with solid rubber tires with roller bearings and grease fittings so that they rotate freely even when fully loaded down with metal weights inside them.

Test weights are an important part of the elevator industry and completing elevator testing to North American standards (CSA B44.1/ASME A17.5) is essential for safety. You can learn more about Mars Metal elevator test carts by exploring our related blogs and pages on our website.

Mars Metal Commercial Elevator Counterweights

Mars Metal also manufacturers and supplies both leaded and steel counterweight plates. Our commercial elevator counterweights are used when an increase in an existing elevator’s capacity, is required. Lead is a valuable material to use for counterweights in elevators because of its high density. When upgrading an elevator to increase weight capacity, the existing steel or cast-iron weights can be replaced with lead counterweights to provide the necessary weight without increasing the stack height. Re-counterweighting becomes a straightforward calculation as lead’s density enables each weight to be 45% heavier.

Steel Counterweights

Mars Metal’s steel counterweights are manufactured according to the size and shape requirements of the client. Custom sizes and Standard OEM weights are available in any quantity. Production cut steel plates from Cobble, Secondary Plate, and Coil, will provide you with the lowest costs and the highest quality.
